Bohol Bee Farm

I have read browsing the internet, that the Bohol Bee Farm is must see place when in Bohol.  So I just had to put it on top of our itinerary, when we finally got to visit Bohol.
The buzz thing at the Bee Farm and I agree with all the other reviews I have read is the unique flavored ice cream at the farm.  I got myself a malungay flavored ice cream (not so brave as to try out the spicy ginger).  My kids got halo-halo with pandan ice cream toppings.

It was almost lunch so we decided to eat there as well!

While you are there, drop by the Bohol Bee Farm shop.  We bought some of their home baked bread for pasalubong. The kids liked it (dipped in Bee Farms special honey spread) so much, the pasalubong never reached Manila !

If you are going to Bohol, be sure to drop by the Bohol Bee Farm. Price is reasonable and the experience worthwhile!

Canyon Woods Resort Tagaytay Weekend

If you are looking for full proof family bonding time, I suggest you seek out Canyon Woods Resort in Tagaytay.

Minutes from entering the resorts, my boys were already out exploring the vast grounds of Canyon Woods. 

A short stroll from our lodging is the activity center.   A play ground, mini-golf, an outdoor pool, billiards, gym, bowling alley, duck feeding, boating and a fishing area  surrounds the resort's Pavilion where we had our breakfast. 

The kids wont leave the resort's play ground. 

 

 

My eldest enjoyed the mini golf... he won by 2 points (**wink**wink**)!

 

 

The pool water is cold, but that is not stopping my kids from dipping (bbbrrr!!!).

Dinner is at the Canyon Wood's Main Club House.

 

Unfortunately it was already late and it was too dark to appreciate the view.

 

 

   



Before heading to our room, we decided to give the billiards and bowling alley a visit.

Long day today, the kids had fun and enjoyed every minute of our stay at Canyon Woods.

Calaruega Church Tagaytay

For the longest time, I have been wanting to go to Calaruega Church in Tagaytay. 

 I have heard so much of it's picturesque garden and chapel. The opportunity came last November when my family decided to go to Tagaytay for my weekend birthday. 

 We stayed at Canyon Woods Resort and as it turned out Calaruega is just a few more kilometers down South (or is it a few mountains and hills up South...?).

The view was simply breath taking. I was shooting pictures like a maniac... (really!)

 

Unfortunately, my husband said it was not as all good on his part, since he had to carry my youngest on his shoulder, going up the flight of stairs to reach the main chapel!

It was amazingly beautiful... (close to God and close to nature).

Alona Golden Palm Resort: Our Home in Bohol

I took a chance on this small 7 room, boutique resort house for our family vacation in Bohol to celebrate my husband's 21st birthday (lol!!!).  And I am happy I did. My husband who was initially pessimistic, was obviously delighted I choosed to book there!

 

The garden was very well kept. The room and bath that we stayed in was equally clean. The pool was surprisingly heated to luke warm, perfect for kiddos...

The resort is located about 2 minutes walk from the beach, which makes it a perfect place to relax away from the busy and noisy Alona beach front.

It was much safer inside the resort too as it was gated, well lighted and guarded. It was okay to just leave the kids wandering and running about, while I sip into my delicious fresh mango shake.

We got a superior deluxe room at the ground floor, which was perfect since it was right in front of the pool.

(we had 2 queen size beds, a mini bar, free daily coffee and tea and very powerful 2hp air-conditioning unit - freezing!!!)

The resort owns 3 well trained dogs and my youngest grew a fonding of Pacquioa, the black pit bull. He literally begged to take it back home to Manila with us.

The staff were nice and accommodating. They readily attended to my request of cake and arranged for special in-room massage for my husband.  

They gave him cake while singing a happy birthday. Sweet!!!

Out Working in Puerto Princesa Palawan

Always wanted to go to Palawan. But with 2 little boys in tow, I knew, it would be later than sooner before I get to go there! Afterall, travelling with children, boys aged 2 and 6 is not the kind of romantic vacation I was hoping for.

So when I learned my US immigrant parents are coming over for a 2 months visit to the Philippines. I knew, that it was answered prayers. I right away booked 2 flights to Palawan (for my husband and myself) and arranged for my mom and dad, to take care of the kids, while we are away.

So off we went to the island province of Palawan, excited for our 4days/3nights rendezvous.

We stayed at Hibiscus Garden Inn. I was a little apprehensive at first, since it is not the regular hotel type I would normally stay in, but when we got there, my husband and I fell in love with the place.

Hibiscus Garden Inn is like a home away from home for us. The place is clean, cozy and refreshing. Instead of the usual swimming pool it has a wonderfully maintained garden in the middle. My husband so love this setting.

The owners and staff our equally friendly. We were allowed to do an early check in (arriving at 930am) and rest while we wait for our afternoon itinerary.

For lunch, we went to the nearby Chicken Inato (the local version of their Mang Inasal here in Manila). Noticed, by the way that the locals here love grilled chicken. Suprised to see that there are more grilled chicken than sea food restaurants (no dampa, huhuhu). I told my husband, that maybe we are not looking hard enough or maybe we are in the wrong side of Palawan.

For our first day itinerary, we went to Iwahig Prison, the Crocodile Farm, Mitra's Ranch, Bakers Hill and Binuatan Creations (found real good weave products here, cheaper by about 70-100% compared to Manila prices).

On our 2nd day, we went to the Underground River. Proud to say I was there and so hope that it be named as one of the 7 new natural wonders of the world. We were simply speechless at we saw. It is worth the long travel and the stinky rat urine smell (which after a while, you will get used to).

Day 3, was Honday Bay Island Hopping. We visited 3 islands, Pandan, Starfish and Snake Island. Of the 3, fish feeding is best at Snake (fishes are big and are so close to the beach). However, I would recommend spending the most time at Pandan, since it has cottages and decent rest rooms (unlike the other 2). There are also nice ladies offering massage, their massage area is nestled under a bunch of trees, feels so relaxing. I suggest you treat yourself to one. Meanwhile, for picture taking, you are sure to like Starfish Island.

For our last night, we tried the tourist favorite Ka Lui. Note that you would have to make reservations to ensure you get in. The interior of the restaurant is impressive, but I find the taking off of the guests shoes rather un-hygenic. The food, I think is over rated. I liked my Chicken Inato meal better. Overall still worth the experience, but would not likely repeat it.

Palawan is a sight to behold. The people are friendly and warm. We are happy to be there.
For next year, though we are planning for Bohol or Cebu. However, we would probably be bringing our little tots. My parents aren't returning next year for vacation and the overtime excused we used on the kids, when we left for Palawan, would obviously no longer work the next time.
