Holy Land 2019 ~ Saying Goodbye to Jordan (DAY 13 ~ JORDAN)

Day 13 ~ Jerash

We spent our last day in Jordan with a visit to Jerash.  Jerash (old name Gerasa) is mentioned in the Bible as "the region of the Gerasenes" (Mark 5:1; Luke 8:26).  It is one of the cities of the Roman Decapolis (which refers to a group of ten Greeko Roman cities grouped together due to their  proximity to each other) and notably, one of its best preserved cities.

Jesus taught and performed miracles in the region (such as the healing of deaf man  who had difficulty speaking as told in Mark 7:31-37).

We only spent a few hours here, which was quite unfortunate considering it is a huge site with much to see.

Hadrian's Arch (also known as the Triumphal Arch) which was built in honor of Emperor Hadrian.

The Hippodrome hosted chariot races and can seat as much as 15,000 spectators.

Father walk will bring you to the Forum~ an organ-pipe columns arranged around an oval shaped plaza which leads to the Temple of Zeus and the South Theatre

Other sites mostly visited by tourists included the Cardo Maximus (also know as the collonaded street), the city’s main thoroughfare. The street is still paved with its original stones; The Nymphaeum (which is the main fountain of the city); The Temple of Artemis dedicated to the patron goddess of the city.

TIP:  Check out the souvenirs housed at the Jerash ticket office.  I got some inexpensive bracelet and charms here.

My Holy Land tour is an adventure that has enriched my personal relationship with God. It is one of my life's highlights, with memories I will cherish for as long as I live.

Right now feeling - Truly Thankful and Blessed!
